In Path of Exile 2, character power is heavily influenced by passive skills, gear, and critical synergy. One notable passive worth exploring is Storm Charge — a POE2 Currency skill that rewards players for dealing critical hits by boosting elemental damage significantly. Whether you're building a crit-heavy caster or a fast-attacking elemental ranger, understanding how Storm Charge works — and how to anoint it onto gear — can help maximize your build's efficiency.
Storm Charge offers two main bonuses:
+40% increased elemental damage if you've dealt a critical hit recently
+20% increased critical strike chance
In PoE terminology, “recently” usually means within the last 4 seconds. So, when you land a crit, the elemental damage buff activates and lasts for 4 seconds. The beauty of this passive is that it doesn't require you to land elemental crits specifically — any critical hit will trigger the bonus.
This makes Storm Charge especially useful for characters that mix crit chance with elemental damage — even if the damage over time or effects themselves don't crit, the boost still applies. For example, a character who uses critical attacks to apply strong elemental damage over time can still take full advantage of this passive.
There are two primary methods for acquiring Storm Charge:
If you're progressing your character and come across Storm Charge on your passive tree path, you can allocate it directly using skill points. This method is permanent and reliable, but only works if the skill is in your build’s reach.
For more flexibility, you can apply Storm Charge to an amulet via the infusion system, using special crafting items called Distilled Emotions.
How to Anoint Storm Charge to an Amulet
To infuse an amulet with Storm Charge, you’ll need the following Distilled Emotions (placed in this exact order):
Distilled Fear
Distilled Terror
Distilled Envy
These items are infused into an amulet using the Infuse Window, a crafting interface available in your inventory.
Where to Get Distilled Emotions
Delirium Maps:
These items drop randomly from enemies in Ultimate Delirium maps — high-difficulty zones filled with loot and danger.
Currency Exchange via Alva:
Alternatively, you can purchase Distilled Mood (which includes Fear, Terror, and Envy) from Alva in your Hideout through her Currency Exchange service. This is useful if you're having trouble farming them yourself.
Important: Monsters in maps accessed via Infused Waystones will not drop Distilled Emotions.
How to Infuse Storm Charge onto an Amulet
Open the Infuse Window
Right-click any Distilled Emotion in your inventory to bring up the infusion menu.
Insert Items
Place the amulet in the top slot.
Insert Distilled Fear, Distilled Terror, and Distilled Envy below it in that order.
Confirm Infusion
The interface will confirm you’ve selected the correct combination with the label “Storm Charge”. Click “Infuse” to complete the process.
Now, that amulet is infused with Storm Charge. Equipping it grants you the passive's full benefits — a perfect solution if the passive tree doesn’t give you access to it directly.
Final Thoughts
Storm Charge is a straightforward but powerful tool in Path of Exile 2. It enhances elemental damage in a predictable, sustainable way, making it great for any build that uses critical strikes and elemental skills. Whether you're casting lightning spells or unleashing burning arrows, Storm Charge fits seamlessly into many high-damage builds.
If you're looking to optimize damage while keeping flexibility in your passive tree, applying Storm Charge to an amulet is an excellent solution. With the right Distilled Emotions and a POE 2 Currency solid crafting plan, this passive can give your build the critical edge it needs.
